tricky proposition \u2013 and puts added pressure on a restaurant, caf\u00e9, or other foodservice establishment to ensure diners know exactly what they\u2019re ordering to avoid \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>To put it simply, food labels can help consumers avoid foods or ingredients to which they or their families have an allergy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the UK Food Standards Agency,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAllergen labelling is a risk management strategy intended to provide food allergic individuals (FAIs), and those shopping and preparing food for FAIs, with access to clear and accurate information on the presence of allergens in foods, so that they can make safe and informed food choices.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.food.gov.uk\/sites\/default\/files\/media\/document\/fsa-and-fsanz-consumers-and-allergen-labelling-literature-review-of-consumer-response-to-allergen-declarations-and-precautionary-allergen-labelling-revised.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong><em>Read the full report here<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recognising the benefit of labelling, the UK government has enacted regulations to ensure consumers are safe when they are eating outside of the home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Natasha\u2019s Law, enacted in 2021, increased food labelling regulations to require full ingredient and allergen labelling be included food that is pre-packaged for direct sale (PPDS) \u2013 allergens specifically must be highlighted on the label for better visibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further regulations are being discussed in the form of Owen\u2019s Law.
